Today, we have the privilege to sit down with Tailand and delve into the essence of his music, exploring his influences, creative process, and aspirations for the future. Join us as we uncover the driving forces behind this talented artist and get a glimpse of what lies ahead for him in the dynamic world of music.
Question: Tailand, for those who might be hearing about you for the first time, could you describe your unique sound? What sets it apart?
Tailand: I would describe my sound as dark and dreamy, but it varies depending on the body of work. The elements that set my style apart are the energy I bring to the mic, the authenticity of my lyrics, and the quality of my vocal/beat production. Humbly you won’t find another artist like me.
Question: Being from New Orleans, a city known for its rich musical heritage, how have your surroundings influenced your music? Can you share any particular experience or place in NOLA that has significantly impacted your art?
Tailand: New Orleans is grimy It’s a place where the weather is always changing but the bloodshed is consistent. The dynamics of the atmosphere have influenced my diversity and the constant corruption has influenced the dark side of my craft, even in my more positive music there’s always that element of evil present.
Question: Collaboration is key in the music industry. Are there any artists, especially from New Orleans, whom you would like to collaborate with or who have inspired your musical style?
Tailand: At the point I’m at now I only want to work with local or non-local artists who can help me progress in my career. Some in mind are D.Savage, Bktherula, and ICYTWAT.
Question: Can you give us some insights into your creative process? How do you usually start working on a new track and what are the elements you focus on to make it resonate with your audience?
Tailand: Since my beats are already made by a slew of talented producers, the first step in my process is the calibration phase in which I lock in the mix, my voice, & my energy in harmony with the beat. After, I lay down a rough draft flow to fill in with lyrics. The main element I focus on to make my track resonate with my audience is understanding the vibe of each record. Not every track needs a complex story or a maze of lyrics, there is a time and place for songs that require that and a time and place for songs that don’t require that.
Question: Looking ahead, what can we expect from Tailand? Any exciting projects, collaborations, or new directions in your sound that you can share with us?
Tailand: I have a single named “Field” dropping later this year. My next project after is a collab EP with Halfdeadkobe featuring a few guest verses from Xtendosworld. Other than that it’s pretty much it, I appreciate you guys for hosting me.
As our conversation with Tailand draws to a close, we leave with a deeper understanding of the artist behind the captivating sound.
