Crown La’trell is a Canadian musician from Toronto Ontario who creates music that people can relate to. The young singer-songwriter’s moody R&B songs are free from all pretenses; he covers familiar topics (love, freedom) but without the flashiness that pervades the too-common radio sounds. Instead, he uses calming, intricate production to emphasize his consistent, confident voice, which has a gravelly tone that stands out from your typical screen artist. La’trell just released a two-single EP titled Numen. The project features the singles You Ain’t Loyal and Morphine. In this, La’trell explores finding his confidence in music without being egotistical. Just the album cover gives you a glimpse into the music he makes – something that’s different but brings reality to light. This introduction sets the tone, showing La’trell makes more than just a collection of material or catchy tunes. These songs feel different and rather dark and bitter. We had a chance to hear his perspective and frame on the project itself:

What are the songs about?

Numen and its accompanied two songs on the EP “You Ain’t Loyal” and “Morphine” are two different sides of the same coin when it comes to love, relationships and emotions. One covers having no loyalty and love within their relationship while the other record covers addictions that may involve too much love within a relationship or overindulgence.

What inspired you as the artist to write it?

My inspiration behind Numen was the real-life stories that I lived and turned into 2 great songs sonically. You ain’t loyal is very self-explanatory by the title, Morphine on the other hand touches on the complete opposite. Rather than someone not being loyal, Morphine embodies the idea that a lover could be just as addictive as the prescribed drug. By relating the Woman whom I am speaking about to the drug. I can sonically create a world where love is a definite key factor, but that love forms itself into an addiction that cannot entirely be controlled or broken!

Why Fans Will Love Numen?

Fans will love Numen because you get two polarizing stories that sonically fuse to create a perfect dual drop! No better time for a Crown La’trell release than in the spooky season.
