Randy Drinkard, better known as Rare Baymaac, was a community leader, a father, and a well-known supporter of the independent music scene in South Central, Los Angeles. He was an independent A&R and producer who helped develop many mainstream artists into mainstream fame and record deals with big labels like Sony, Universal, and Warner Brothers. He owned many different studios throughout his lifetime and never turned down a young artist, regardless of their background or whether or not they could afford the studio time. He helped many mainstream artists, such as Nipsey Hussle, 03 Greedo, and Spider Loc, early on in their careers. He was a loving friend, father, mentor, and son.
His benevolence was inherited from his mother, who runs a nursery that has become well-known in the community for helping people regardless of their background. Over President’s Day weekend, just down the street from his mother’s nursing home, his life was senselessly taken far too soon, and now there are many friends, artists, children, and parents left without their best friend and biggest supporter. The murder remains unsolved, and his killer is still at large. He leaves behind 4 young children; Chozen 5, Shylah 12, Kayla 16, and Amaru 18. Please contact the LAPD with any information regarding his case.
